Idling-Reduction

Idling-reduction is a major component to reducing emissions and greening fleets.  More BC cities and towns are implementing and enforcing idling-reduction by-laws (pdf), policies and no idling zones. For example, the City of North Vancouver (pdf) and the Resort Municipality of Whistler (pdf) have by-laws in place to minimize idling.

The City of Williams Lake implemented a successful idling-reduction program for its own fleet.  Neptune Foods, with 98 trucks, implemented a program in close cooperation with its drivers that reduced fuel usage by about 16%.  The fuel cost savings were then shared with its drivers.
