January 24, 2008 - Vancouver, BC - The Fraser Basin Council (FBC), in company with funding partners BCTA, the Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) and the Province of B.C., is offering $10,000 per tractor/trailer to eligible fleets interested in participating in the Green Fleets B.C. enviroTruck program. The program is intended to assist fleets willing to put together an “enviroTruck” that includes a 2007 or newer smog-free engine in a Class 8 heavy-duty truck and technologies for reducing fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, in order to demonstrate their effectiveness. FBC will accept applications for participation (pdf, updated Jun 26, 2008). Funding available for the entire program totals $70,000. To be eligible for funding, your fleet must be based and operate in B.C., and you must agree to purchase and install the complete list of components that make up an enviroTruck, including the following: 1. A 2007 or newer smog-free engine in a Class 8 heavy-duty truck 2. A speed limiter set at no more than 105 km/hr 3. All of the following add-on devices:
If FBC accepts your application, you have until March 15, 2008 to order and purchase any or all of the components not already installed on your truck and to submit a Request for Payment form, along with related receipts or invoices. Finally, you must have installed all of the components that make up your enviroTruck by March 31, 2008. In addition to receiving funding, successful applicants will participate in Green Fleets B.C. promotional activities including a media launch event, a listing on www.greenfleets.ca , Green Fleets B.C. graphics for trailer side-skirts, and an interview for an article in an industry publication. Green Fleets B.C. has adopted the enviroTruck program not only to promote emissions-reduction technology and increase environmental awareness, but also as a way to assist the transportation industry in making informed choices about available technologies through education and communication. Program participants must complete monthly surveys on fuel usage, the number of kilometres travelled, and user experience with their enviroTruck over a 12-month period. FBC will share this information on the Green Fleets B.C. website, with additional information about the technologies, including potential fuel and cost savings.
