There are lots of aftermarket technologies available that will reduce fuel consumption when used properly. Many will also improve performance and driver comfort, while reducing emissions and improving a fleet's bottom line.
Fleets are encouraged to review all performance claims made by OEM and aftermarket technology providers and confirm claims prior to purchasing any product. A study conducted by the RMI group (pdf) for the Canadian Trucking Alliance concluded that there are fuel savings to be achieved from the use of different technologies, as follows:
*Compared to main engine idling In the Fall of 2007 a number of organizations, under the technical direction of FERIC, sponsored a rigorous independent test program that measured the energy efficiency of a number of technologies under test track conditions. This test program report concluded that some technologies can have a significant impact on reducing fuel use and greenhouse gas emissions. For example, aerodynamic devices saved up to 7% and wide tires about 10%. |
